TSAI Yi-Chin

Yi-Chin was born in 1992 in Tainan, Taiwan. Being a filmmaker, animator and video artist, she focuses on finding ways to reflect her life experience and observations of the world.

With the combination of experiments of the making process, under camera animation, mixed materials techniques and analog films, she creates abstract flowing visuals and explores the possibilities of expressing emotion in different means.

Yi-Chin graduated in 2023 from RE:ANIMA Erasmus Mundus Joint Master, which was in Aalto University in Finland, LUCA School of Art in Belgium and Universidade Lusófona in Portugal. In 2018, she founded PetriDish Studio to produce animation work. In 2014, she graduated from the Radio and Television department in National ChengChi University in Taiwan. Her work has been screened and awarded internationally in Asia, Europe and America.

Fascinated by the nature of analogue film and the combination of light, space and moving images, she dedicates herself to experimenting with 16mm film and exploring the possibilities of conveying her life philosophy through time, space, light and shadow.
