TSAI YiChin
YiChin was born in 1992 in Tainan, Taiwan.
Being a film director, animator and video artist, she focuses on finding ways to reflect her life experience and observations of the world.
With the combination of experiments of the making process, under camera animation, mixed materials techniques and analog films, she creates abstract flowing visuals and explores the possibilities of expressing emotion in different means.
YiChin graduated in 2023 from RE:ANIMA Erasmus Mundus Joint Master, which was in Aalto University (Finland), LUCA School of Art (Belgium) and Universidade Lusófona (Portugal).
In 2018, she founded PetriDish Studio to produce animation work.
In 2014, she graduated from the Radio and Television department in National ChengChi University in Taiwan.
Her co-directed film won the Best Animation Short Film in Golden Horse Awards, which was the biggest film award in Taiwan. And her work has been screened internationally in Asia, Europe and America.
Fascinated by the nature of analog film and exhibition, her next project will focus on experimenting with 16mm film and the combination of time, space, light and shadow in exhibition.
